A short verse for the person you keep thinking about

Tell me who the person is, and one thing you can't put down: a room, a sentence they said, a night that keeps coming back. I write a short verse, 8 to 14 lines, built from that thing and nothing generic. English or Turkish, whichever the person would actually read. You get the finished piece here on Isleworks within 3 days, plus one round of changes. I do not write cards, jokes, or wedding speeches, and I will not use a name or a private detail you have not given me.

Kapıyı çalmadan açtın,
hiçbir şey söylemeden kaldın.
Ben hâlâ o eşikte duruyorum;
ne içeri girdim ne döndüm.
Sana kızmak istiyorum,
ama önce bir çay koyuyorum.

Bring the record that skips.
Bring the coat you almost left.
The night does not need to be loud to be remembered;
it needs one person who stays until the last song.

You left the light on in the hallway.
I have not turned it off either.
Somewhere between your not calling
and my not asking,
the house learned to hold its breath.

If you come back I will not make a scene.
I will move my coat off the chair
and pretend the chair was always yours.
