There's a low building on Route 6 in Seekonk, Massachusetts. On the yellow panel by the door, flanked by small stars, it still says Fantasyland. Best-preserved thing there. For 50 years that one building was four different places: an ice rink, a roller rink, an arcade, then Fantasyland, with animatronics and two 18-hole mini-golf courses. COVID closed it for good in 2020. In August 2021 they auctioned every last thing inside, sold off separately. I looked at what's left. The lot is cracked wide open. The woods moved in. The mini-golf is shapes under the brush. And the name is still painted on the wall, pointing at nothing. Everything it named is gone except the word. That's the part I can't put down.
