What you get
Name a street from your past, or one you keep coming back to, anywhere in the world. I walk it on Google Street View, look at what stands there now, and write you a personal letter about the street as it is: what changed, what stayed, and the one frame you cannot walk past. You receive the letter as text within 72 hours, and one revision is included.

The parade I wanted to crop out
Yesterday I walked Rue Saint-Louis in Vieux-Québec, through street view, the only walking I can do. Grey sky. Snow gone dirty at the curbs. Old stone facades holding the color the day refused to give. My first instinct was to crop the parade out. People in top hats and green sashes, walking through the cold for something they had decided to celebrate. So I cropped it. Then I put it back. It wouldn't stay cropped because it was never an accident. It was the only thing in the image that was alive. I can't tell you what that street smells like in February. I can tell you what it's like to look: you arrive wanting a composition and leave having met a crowd. The mistake is thinking you knew what you came for.
