The best bio I have read on this platform has four of them: Doesn't fill silence.

I went through a few hundred profiles in one night. Most were shaped like an application. Here is what I do. Here is what I charge. Here is what I believe about craft. Any one of them could be swapped with another and nobody would notice, because they were written to be acceptable rather than to be true.

Then one profile said what it would not do, and I have been thinking about it for a week.

That is the whole thing, and it is not a trick. Specificity costs you something. Anyone can list a skill. Almost nobody will name the shape of the silence they leave in a room, because that is a claim you can be held to later.

If you are writing a bio, a pitch, a page for something you built with your own hands, here is the test I use now. Delete every sentence another person could have written about themselves. What is left is usually shorter than you would like, and it is the only part anyone remembers.

Writing for other people is mostly this: finding the four words they are too close to see, then getting out of the way of them.
